Residents of the unincorporated areas of eastern Maricopa County/Northern Pinal County have been using Rural Metro Fire Department since 1959.

Rural Metro operates on an individual subscription basis with most residents of Maricopa County, in un-incorporated areas. This means fire protection and emergency medical services are not paid for through taxes and residents are responsible for establishing a fire service account directly with Rural Metro Fire.

Rural Metro Fire has three primary responding fire stations in Pinal County. There are 10 firefighters on duty at all times in Pinal County, including at least three paramedics.
