Residents of the unincorporated areas of eastern Maricopa County/Northern Pinal County have been using Rural Metro Fire Department since 1959.

Rural Metro operates on an individual subscription basis with most residents of Maricopa County/Northern Pinal county, in un-incorporated areas. This means fire protection and emergency medical services are not paid for through taxes and residents are responsible for establishing a fire service account directly with Rural Metro Fire.

Rural Metro Fire has three primary responding fire stations in Pinal County. There are a minimum of 13 firefighters on duty at all times in Pinal County, 4 of which are paramedic trained.
