Partnership Preserves Local Fire Department Identity While Enhancing Service Delivery

Rural Metro Fire and EMS Services is proud to announce a new partnership with the City of South Tucson, approved by the Mayor and City Council on December 16, 2025. Beginning February 1, 2026, Rural Metro will provide fire and emergency medical service personnel to support the South Tucson Fire Department, ensuring residents and businesses continue to receive exceptional emergency response.

A Partnership Built on Community Needs

This collaboration represents a strategic approach to modern fire and EMS service delivery. After a comprehensive evaluation by an independent public safety consultant, the City of South Tucson determined that partnering with Rural Metro meets both operational and financial objectives while enhancing service quality and long-term sustainability.

Rural Metro is honored that the City of South Tucson has chosen us as their partner in delivering critical emergency services. This agreement allows us to support a community-focused fire department while bringing our nearly 80 years of fire protection experience to strengthen local capabilities.

What This Means for South Tucson

Under this partnership:

  • The South Tucson Fire Department maintains its identity – There will be no change to the department’s name, branding, or local presence
  • City authority remains intact – All services continue under the direction and oversight of the City of South Tucson
  • Service levels are enhanced – Rural Metro’s staffing and resources will strengthen emergency response capabilities
  • Community accountability is preserved – The South Tucson Fire Department stays rooted in the community it serves
